"Fundamental Concepts In Phonology: Sameness And Difference" by Ken Lodge

Ken Lodge brought me on board to write my 2006 book for Continuum's "Critical Introductions" series that he edits. We'd met at Manchester, and hit it off straight away. That's the short of it. The longer of it is that Ken has had a profound influence on the trajectory of my thinking on phonology. In this, his brief 2009 book, he makes a strong case for a decidedly Firthian approach to phonology, and makes me realize that my little ideas are far more indebted to the big London School than I had ever realized. As a result of reading this book, my 2012 book evolved into a far more sophisticated work (I hope) than I had originally envisioned. Ken, thanks so much for your tremendous inspiration!
